There are detailed regulations for the notary costs in the German Costs law (Kostenordnung – KostO). A notary must not deviate from this law by charging either higher or lower fees.

Similar to the lawyers´ fees according to the RVG, notaries´ costs are calculated in consideration of the issue´s value on the one hand and the extent of work on the other hand. E.g., recording a complete contract is more expensive than just recording a contract-offer.
