Lawyer´s fees
fair and frank
In Germany lawyers´ fees are regulated by the Rechtsanwaltsvergütungs-gesetz (RVG - law on lawyers´ fees). In cases of civil law, lawyers´ fees are calculated according to the value of the matter involved. In addition to that, the fee depends on the extent of the lawyers´ work.
Court trials
In court trials, the minimum fees are strictly defined by the RVG, prescribing separate fees for different steps of a trial. In the first step, the lawyer shall receive a fee for the trial itself, in another step a fee for attendance in an oral hearing and another one for his participation in a settlement. Nevertheless, the lawyer is allowed to agree with his client on a payment higher than the minimum according to RVG.
Example: The lawyer appears for his client in a claim of 900,00 €. He has to attend an oral hearing. According to RVG, the lawyer shall receive a fee for the trial of 84,50 € and a fee for the hearing of 78,00 €. The lawyer may add a lump sum for documents and phone calls of 20,00 € and VAT. The total charges would total 217,18 €. If the claim was 6.000,00 €, the laywer would receive 1.029,35 €. Nevertheless, the fee depends on the "steps" taken only, no matter how extensive the lawyer has to work on the case.
Out of court
As far as there is not a court case in question, client and lawyer are free to agree on the payment. If there is no agreement, a fee structure will be taken from the RVG.
We are charging appropriate hourly rates for out of court advice and representation. Furthermore, we offer lump sums for single consultations or agreements according to RVG-based fee frames.
At the beginning of every case, our lawyers will discuss our fee structure with you in order to reach a mutually satisfactory agreement. Please do not hesitate and ask any question on lawyers´ fees and for any explanation you need.
